Meyer Southern Ltd was appointed to carry out a domestic asbestos removal project at a residential property on Hoylake Road, Drayton, in Portsmouth.

The scope covered eight rooms and two distinct asbestos-containing materials: floor tiles throughout the ground floor living spaces and textured coatings across the upstairs ceilings. In total, 122m2 of material was scheduled for removal.

Every decision on site was shaped by one priority: keeping the homeowner, the neighbouring properties, and the wider environment protected from start to finish.

Scope of Works

The project kicked off with a detailed review of the asbestos survey supplied by the client. From there, our team laid out a phased plan covering sequencing, room access, and the containment requirements needed for each material type. This fed directly into a written method statement and a site-specific risk assessment, both aligned with current UK asbestos regulations.

On the ground floor, floor tile removal was split across three areas: 15m2 at the entrance, 22m2 in the dining room, and 15m2 in the living room. Upstairs, textured coating was stripped from five ceilings, measuring 15m2 on the landing and 20m2, 12m2, 13m2, and 10m2 across the four bedrooms. Each material was handled by licensed operatives using the correct removal method for that substrate.

Before any work began, full containment enclosures were built, negative pressure units were running, and air monitoring was live.

Safe Removal Process

Site setup was the first priority. Each working area was sealed off with polythene sheeting, access points were taped and signed, and floor protection was laid throughout the transit routes. Clean zones stayed clean because the boundaries were obvious, marked, and controlled.

For both the tiles and the textured coating, wet removal was the chosen method. This cut airborne fibre release down to the minimum and kept dust levels under tight control while the work progressed. All waste came off site double-bagged, correctly labelled, and consigned directly to a licensed asbestos disposal facility. Every movement was logged.

Compliance and Disposal

Waste transport and final disposal followed UK legislation to the letter. The homeowner received full consignment notes and disposal certificates at the end of the job, leaving them with a complete record should it ever be needed for future sale or works.

Once the asbestos was gone, a thorough clean-down was carried out across every room that had been worked in. A final inspection confirmed the spaces were safe to reoccupy, meaning the client could bring in follow-on trades without delay.

Project Outcome

The Hoylake Road job was delivered on programme, on budget, and to the standard expected of Meyer Southern. The property went back to the homeowner clean, compliant, and ready for the next phase of refurbishment. Results like this are why homeowners across Hampshire keep returning to us for licensed asbestos work handled the right way.
