Meyer Southern Ltd was brought in to a property on Dore Avenue in Portchester, Fareham, where two separate asbestos-containing elements needed safe removal in a single visit.

The works covered 104m2 of artex ceiling finish taken back to the plasterboard, together with 32.5m2 of asbestos cement sheeting on the garage roof.

With occupied living space below and neighbouring properties close by, keeping fibre release controlled and the surrounding area protected guided every decision across the job.

Scope of Works

Work began with a close read of the asbestos survey supplied for the property. Using that, our team confirmed the location and condition of both the artex ceiling and the garage roof sheets, then set out a working sequence that kept the two removals separate and clean.

A method statement and risk assessment were prepared for the site, written against current UK asbestos regulations and matched to the layout of the building and the position of the garage.

The internal element totalled 104m2 of artex finish, with the external element made up of 32.5m2 of bonded asbestos cement roof sheeting. Each required its own containment approach, so both were planned and resourced individually before any work started on site.

Safe Removal Process

Inside the property, the work area was sealed and protected before the ceiling was touched. Surfaces below were sheeted out, access was restricted, and the artex was worked using wet methods to hold down dust and keep airborne fibre to a minimum as it came away from the plasterboard.

Outside, the garage roof sheets were lifted whole rather than cut or snapped, which kept the bonded material intact and limited any disturbance. As each sheet and each section of ceiling came down, it was wrapped, double-bagged, and labelled to regulation before being logged for collection.

Compliance and Disposal

Every load of asbestos waste was transported and disposed of through a licensed facility, fully in line with UK legislation. Once the works were complete, consignment notes and waste disposal certificates were passed straight to the property owner so they held a full record of what was removed and where it went.

The ceiling void, the garage, and the surrounding ground were cleaned down afterwards, and a final visual check confirmed the areas were safe to hand back.

Project Outcome

The Dore Avenue project was finished on schedule and left in the condition Meyer Southern is trusted for across Hampshire. Both areas were handed back clear, clean, and ready for follow-on work, with the ceiling prepared for reinstatement and the garage ready for re-roofing. Homeowners and landlords across the area keep coming back to us for asbestos removal carried out carefully, accurately, and with full regulatory backing.
