Scope of Works
Planning started with the client-supplied asbestos survey, which confirmed the material and condition of the ceiling before any work began. From this we set out a method statement and risk assessment built around the layout of the room and current UK asbestos regulations.
The single ceiling area of 7m2 was booked in for controlled removal, with the reinstatement scheduled to follow straight after, so a separate trade was not needed to make the room good.
Safe Removal Process
The kitchen was sealed off and protected before anything was disturbed. Polythene barriers were taped at the access points to keep clean areas clean, and warning signage and access controls kept anyone from entering the work zone by mistake.
Removal was carried out using controlled wet methods to hold dust and airborne fibres down. Once the ceiling was down, the material was double-bagged, labelled, and kept secure ready for disposal.
Compliance and Disposal
All asbestos waste left the property under a hazardous waste consignment note and went to a licensed disposal facility, with documentation to confirm lawful disposal. The work was carried out in line with the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, which places a duty to manage asbestos on non-domestic property holders and sets the standard the whole job was measured against.
With removal complete, the area was cleaned down and checked before the next stage began.
